Bugs with Excel, Chrome, & Outlook

Postby Thunder- » 31.07.2013 16:32:23

I probably need to find an alternative program to use, but I figured I'd at least report the bugs here. Programs act up randomly - sometimes after one switch, sometimes after a few hours.

Excel Bugs
  • It turns into a blank white window.

  • The Excel window can disappear entirely, so I'm just staring at my desktop.

  • Excel switches which monitor it wants to be on - it may've been o
  • n the right, but I switch back and suddenly it's on the left.

  • Excel does not let me click on anything.

  • Excel does not stick to its assigned desktop.

Chrome

  • Chrome does not stick to its assigned desktop once I try opening a link from Outlook.
I wish this program worked better - I would gladly donate if it did.

I'm running Windows 7.

Did you actually assign Chrome using the "Assign applications" feature? If not, that sounds like normal behavior according to "Settings > Plugins and Extras > When activating a window on another desktop".

We tried to reproduce your Excel issues with Office 2013, but were unable to make Excel white, invisible, unresponsive or switch monitors. Any more detailed instructions how to trigger the problems?

Hey Patrick. Great to hear back from you.

I did assign Chrome via Assign Applications.

For Excel, try maximizing the window to replicate the error. It almost always happens on the right monitor. It now tends to disappear maybe 6 hours into my workday, requiring a system restart to fix. If I click on the top of the screen (where the Excel bar should be) and drag down, the window reappears.

One other thing - since posting this, I've used Revo Uninstaller to remove a bunch of HP bloatware, and Dexpot has acted up a bit less.

Hi Patrick - sounds like you guys have had no luck replicating it? Are there any good alternatives?

EDIT: Here's another way to try replicating it. I have Outlook assigned to desktop 2 and Excel on desktop 3. When I try to open an Excel attachment in Outlook, Excel starts acting very wonky (Outlook is fine). Same thing with opening a link in Outlook if Chrome is assigned to desktop 1.

EDIT 2: For anyone Googling, it looks like the Dexpot team is trying to ignore this until it goes away.. :x If you click on the Dexpot settings, there's probably a shotkey for switch/move windows. I unclicked them and it solved some of the above problems.
