Stop displaying the icons that are on top of the date

I cannot figure out how to hide the desktop icons that are being displayed above the taskbar date.

I've enclosed a screen shot.

Can I make this permanent so that when I reboot, I don't have to set it again?

Go to "Settings > Components > Desktop Manager" and disable the option "Start with Dexpot".
