Chrome and Alt+1/2/3/4 switching shortcut
Chrome and Alt+1/2/3/4 switching shortcut
Hi, I am using Chrome on a Win 7. When I open certain websites, and I try to switch windows using Alt+1/2/3/4, I can't do it. My laptop just makes "ding" sound, and nothing happens. This only happens with certain websites though, for example, I can use Alt smoothly with this website. But with websites like "https://webwork.itc.virginia.edu/", I fail to switch with Alt keys. Could you help me out?
Re: Chrome and Alt+1/2/3/4 switching shortcut

Do other methods for desktop switching (Desktop Manager, Full-screen preview, ...) still work when you have such a website open? If so, go to "Dexpot Settings > Controls > Hotkeys" and change the key bindings for the "Switch desktops" hotkeys to something else. If it works with the new hotkeys, Chrome, a Chrome add-on or some other application is intercepting the original Alt key combinations.

Re: Chrome and Alt+1/2/3/4 switching shortcut
Windows 7 Professional (64-bit) SP1
Chrome 23.0.1271.97 m
Regardless of what the hotkeys I set (event went so far as to use "z" and "x" and checked the "Allow hotkeys without modifiers"), I cannot perform "Switch Desktop," "Move Window," or "Move Window and Switch" while Chrome is in focus. As soon as I click on the Windows taskbar (just in the empty space), or on a different program, the hotkeys work normally. I've disabled all extensions and addons with no change in behavior.
As a side note, in Chrome, when you open a tab and type "Alt 1" it puts "1" into the URL bar. So chrome does use the Alt+1 keystroke, but only on "new tab" windows that do not already have a URL. Furthermore, this does not explain why other combinations (Shift + 1, Shift + 2, z, x, Ctrl + 1, Ctrl + 2) did not work while Chrome was in focus (all worked after chrome was no longer the active window).

Re: Chrome and Alt+1/2/3/4 switching shortcut
I've tried again to reproduce the issue using the same versions of Windows and Chrome (all default settings, no extensions). My desktop switching hotkeys (Alt+1, Alt+2, ...) still work as expected when Chrome has focus.
Does it matter which website is open? The original poster mentioned that the problem only occurs on certain sites.
Dexpot uses the global hotkey mechanism provided by Windows for its hotkeys. If Chrome really somehow overrides them, I don't think there is much we can do about it...
