Chrome launching on wrong desktop

Postby hrynkiw » 15.08.2011 19:33:11

I'm a relatively new user to Dexpot and have a slightly annoying problem.

Dexpot is set to launch on system startup under WinXP.
I have three desktops, each with a simple, different Configure Desktop > Start-Up setting.

Desk-1
No Dexpot Start-Up settings. (Although other programs do launch via Start > Programs > Startup)

Desk-2 - Start-Up, Event: First entry
"C:\Program Files\Firefox\firefox.exe"

Desk-3 - Start-Up, Event: First entry
"C:\Documents and Settings\(myusername)\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe"

On system startup, Desk-2 behaves as expected: the desktop is empty until the first time I enter it, then Firefox starts up.

But Chrome is launching on startup on Desk-1 instead of Desk-3.
It does not start on Desk-3 when I enter.
Chrome is not present in Start > Programs > Startup

Did I set up something incorrectly in Dexpot, or is this a Chrome issue?

:dex:,

made the same settings here and I'm not seeing the issue.

Have a look at your registry. Path: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Anything "suspicious" in there?
Best regards (wave)

Hi Sebastian, thanks for the reply.

Hm. So it must be something on my machine.

I'm not seeing an entry "CurrentVersion" under Microsoft in my registry.

Oh, wait. A little Googling reveals ".../Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Run", which I do see.

I'm not experienced with reading registry entries, but based on what I see here it looks like this is a list of startup processes, yes? Nope, nothing overly odd or unusual.
(Default) - (value not set)
ctfmon.exe
Dexpot
Google Update
OfficeSyncProcess
swg (GoogleToolbarNotifier.exe)
TClockEx (my toolbar clock tool)

Now that I know it's not a Dexpot setting that I've misinterpreted or something, let me do a little more experimentation to see if I can narrow down the criteria.

Thanks for your help.

Hi, I'm back.

Same problem. (More of an annoyance, really. But stil...)

I have a little more information -- Dexpot is definitely involved. If I turn off Settings > General > "Start with Windows", Chrome doesn't start either. When I start Dexpot manually, Chrome starts too. The Chrome launch is definitely tied to Dexpot startup.

There is nothing (really nothing, I deleted everything) in
Configure Desktops > (any of my desktops) > Start-up
Configure Desktops > all desktops > Start-up
Desktop rules

Where else in Dexpot might a program start-up hide?

Otherwise, I'm delighted with Dexpot. It's been able to do everything I've asked it to.

My next step will be to un-install Dexpot and try re-installing.

Please enable the Dexpot log file, restart Dexpot and send me the log file.

Regretfully, the profile on my workstation was reset by the Powers That Be a few days ago and I've had to re-configure all my applications from scratch. The mystery-Chrome-launches-with-Dexpot problem has gone away.

If it shows up again, I'll be back. Thank-you for your support.
