pop-up window issue

Postby Xavier » 30.05.2006 21:00:31

Hi,
I've been using Dexpot for a few days (I really miss the many-desktops of Linux), but I have run in a very anoying issue I don't know how to fix. If an application opens a pop-up window in a desktop not in focus, this window apparently appears behind the main application window.
Typically, I have an application named Quartus II to compile PLD programs. I run it, and it takes a few minutes to finish the compilation. In the meantime I go to another desktop, use firefox, etc.
When I go back to the Quartus desktop, I see the compilation is finished, but the main window is without focus, and I can't do anything. If I click anywhere on the main window, nothing happens. The reason is that a "Ok" pop-up window is behind the main one...
I can't click the "Ok", I can't move the main window out of its way, the pop-up window does not show in the window list cycling, and the desktop show/hide doesn't help...
Any idea on how to solve this issue? (also happens when Firefox opens a pop-up, I guess with any application)
My only current solution is to kill the app with ctrl-alt-del

Hi Xavier,

there are two things you can try: First, open the Settings, go to "Extras", and check "Detect popup windows".
The second thing would be to use the 'DexTab' task switcher to switch to the popup window. You can define a hotkey for Dextab in the Settings under "Controls", on the hotkey tab, in the "Miscellaneous" group (e.g. Ctrl+Tab, since it's closely related to Windows' Alt+Tab). Then, also in the settings, go to "Components", open the "DexTab" tab, and uncheck the "Show only windows which are listed in the task bar" option. The popoup should then appear in the list opened when hitting the DexTab hotkey.

I know that doesn't solve the problem itself, but hopefully you are able to work again...
Mit freundlichen Grüßen (wave)
