disappearing desktop background

Hello.
How do I check in options hide desktop icons disappear and the desktop background image is black.
How to fix it.?
I want to not have a second desktop system icons

I get the same problem; whenever I fondle my desktop settings, it happens, and I have to go in "Desktop settings", go to the background tab, select for all desktops, make whatever change in the way the background fits (enlarge/center/etc), make "apply", and if it didn't fix the problem, go back to the setting it originally was, and then its fixed, even if I technically didn't change anything. Weird and annoying, thats why I came here for actually...
