Directory Opus/PowerPro not working with Dexpot 1.6.10

Postby Snowbird » 18.09.2013 16:33:56

Good day:

I am having an issue with degraded functionality of two of my applications after installing Dexpot 1.6.10.

1. Directory Opus no longer opens the default when the Desktop is double clicked.
2. PowerPro no longer shows hidden toolbars when the edge of the screen is bumped.

If I shutdown Dexpot the functionality of these two applications returns to normal. Also, if I re-install Dexpot 1.6.9 Build 2285 they function as expected.

I have looked at my Dexpot config and Dexpot release notes and can find nothing that might cause these two issues. For now I have downgraded to Dexpot 1.6.9 Build 2285 in order to retain the necessary functionality.

Could you take a look at the issue and try to determine the cause please?

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Both applications should work again if you re-install Dexpot some place outside the "Program Files" and "Program Files (x86)" directories, like "C:\Dexpot" or "C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Dexpot".

Thank you Patrick. Re-installing in C:\Dexpot\ did fix the issue.

I have exactly this problem as well with DOpus and PowerPro. In my case, Dexpot is installed over in E:\system\dexpot and I've tracked the cause down to having to run Dexpot as administrator (to stop windows copying them selves to all desktops since I'm on W7x64). If I don't run as administrator DOpus starts from a desktop doubleclick and PowerPro bump menus pop out.

Is there some setting, fix or workaround that I've missed? If not, could this be fixed please? I would like to use Dexpot more, but the windows not staying on their desktops spoil the experience, and I can't live without PowerPro or DOpus working properly.

You only need to run Dexpot as administrator if you have other programs running as admin and don't want them to be visible on all desktops. But if other programs are running ad admin, you already have this problem. When an admin window is focused, Windows no longer passes on mouse input data to DOpus/PowerPro. It's a Windows security feature and not really a Dexpot problem.

Thanks for the explanation. Unfortunately, there are some apps that run as admin (the GUI for my backup, for instance, and the Canon AIO scanner app for another), and typically it's those that could usefully be hived off to a desktop while they're doing their stuff.

If Windows doesn't pass on mouse data, couldn't Dexpot kind of rebroadcast it?
