can't fix apps to monitors

Postby bbottger » 29.07.2013 10:13:59

I have 3 monitors assigned to Desktop1 and wish to run 1 specific app on each monitor under Desktop 1. Then I would like 3 different apps on the monitors under Desktop2. However, when I switch back to Desktop 1, all apps are stacked on Monitor 1, one behind the other. All apps under Desktop 2 also get stack under monitor1 in that desktop.

Am I doing something wrong? I was expecting to see the same apps on the same windows when I came back to my front desktop.

Help????

Yes, that's how it's supposed to work.

Does the problem occur with all applications (including stuff like Notepad, Paint, Explorer, ...), or only with particular ones? What's your Windows version? What other programs are running in the background?

Yes, it happens with all applications. I'm using Win7-64bit. 16gb Ram. I have a stock trading platform (Think or Swim) with multiple screens opened on different monitors, usually have Outlook open, and often an excel spreadsheet. I also run Skype as well as probably a Chrome window and/or IE10 window. SnagIt, Teamviewer, Skydrive, Norton, are the major resident processes running. Sometimes Citrix.

It may be that I'm just missing some configuration aspect but for the life of me I can't figure it out.

Thanks!

There is no feature that stacks all windows onto one monitor when switching desktops, so it's probably not a Dexpot configuration problem. A weird interaction with some other program seems most likely, but none of the things you listed look suspicious.

Maybe you could try it after a system reboot with only the essentials running, or maybe even on a different computer.
