I just finished reading the 22 pages of Support section, and was unable to find quite the same issue as mine. I may just be a bit thick and the solution is easy, but I can't figure it out. Let me set the scene with some background.
Switching between desktops using hot keys got a serious boost with the introduction of Dexgrid, and from what I can tell from an earlier post shown below, earlier changes in 2010 allowing desktops to be arranged on top of each other, not just linearly:
Arrow Keys

It would be nice if you could use the up and down arrow keys to navigate the desktop grid.
It would make the layout much more intuitive (especially the wall dexcube effect).
In addition, it would be nice to be able to use the arrow keys to move windows around the grid.

Just thought I would add another vote for laying out desktops in a grid.. Everything else about Dexpot looks great! Unfortunately it's back to VirtuaWin for me. I look forward to switching to Dexpot in the future!

thanks for your suggestions.
Indeed, that sounds intuitive.

And also this capacity to shift "vertically" was suggested even earlier in the following post:
Re: 2x2 row for windows?

I know this is ancient, but the problem is that Dexpot doesn't (apparently) have any keyboard controls to select the desktop above or below.
In the present setup with Dexgrid, now we have access to making up and down hotkeys. However, as pointed out in the following post, the links between desktops are not necessarily in the order they appear in the preview window on screen:
[1.5] Align desktops to 3x3 grid?
Postby f4te on 11.03.2010 01:27:25
Hey there, i'd like to start by saying this is an amazing program! I've yet to figure out all the features, but one thing i've noticed is that it doesn't seem to allow me to align the desktops to a grid- so that i can move from desktop 1 (top left) to desktop 4 (middle left) just by moving the mouse down. If this is possible, how do i do it?
Cheers, and thanks again!
Using Dexgrid, I setup 6 desktops, and aligned the preview screen to show this as two rows of three desktops, labelled as follows:
{ 1 2 3 }
{ 4 5 6 }
I then set up hotkeys (specifically, CTRL-arrow) to allow motion between each desktop, to recreate a comforting Linux environment. However, any sideways motion from 2 or 1 only takes me to the other, and downwards from 1 leads me through 3 and 5. Similarly, 2 leads to 4 then 6. Obviously, the software thinks these are aligned in a grid as follows:
{ 1 2 }
{ 3 4 }
{ 5 6 }
Is there some way of correcting/changing this? Perhaps a command to specify not only number of desktops but the rows too?
In a pinch, I thought perhaps the "Orientation" command in Settings>Components>Desktop Manager could be used to establish that the layout was horizontal. Then the current rules and hotkey shortcuts would at least produce appropriate responses/behaviour, but the order of desktops would appear a little weird, eg { 2 4 6 } above { 1 3 5 }.
I'm using ver. 1.6.5, Build 2207, under Win 7 Enterprise 64 bit Sp 1. If a log file or similar is required, let me know.
Kind regards,
Daniel
