Saving to desktop...

Hi, I just downloaded and installed this program yesterday - Win 7 32 bit - and I have been looking through the documentation. One problem I have encountered is saving a file to the desktop. As a test a went to a random website and downloaded a file, and chose to save it on mt desktop, then I saved a picture from a website to the desktop. Only problem is that they do not show up on any desktop when I do this....

If I open Desktop Windows they show up in the list on the correct Desktop but they do not show up on the desktop itself - so how does this work?
