dock on multiple workspaces
dock on multiple workspaces
First of all, I just want to say thank you for this free program. Everything works very smoothly and on little memory.
My issue is with rocketdock. I currently use it to replace my start bar. It works beautifully in the first desktop but could not replicate itself on my other two workspaces through the desktop windows options. I figured this was an issue because I run dexpot via a task in windows - i.e. in order to boot with full permissions. I changed an option in that task that 'allows rocketdock to run multiple instances.' This worked...somewhat. Rocketdock runs in all three of my workspaces, but the icons and skin do not show in any but the first.
I ran a search in this forum and noticed other people using rocketdock, but unfortunately my German is awful. I want to see if there is already a solution or any other ideas?
My system is using vista 64 ultimate and I am running the app with full permissions.
Thank you for your time.

Re: dock on multiple workspaces
Open the file wechsel.ini located in the Dexpot program folder with a text editor and add the following lines to the section [Klasse]
Restart Dexpot afterwards.
(I took this from the thread in the German support forum and haven't tested it myself.)
Code: Select all
RDIconWnd=sticky
ROCKETDOCK=stickyRestart Dexpot afterwards.

Re: dock on multiple workspaces
Hi,
you may also create a desktop rule, which is what I did with RocketDock and Oxygenator (a discontinued 1999 freeware that displays memory consuption as a small bar).
I have one rule for each program. The rules are applied automatically and the action I chose was to copy to all desktops.
It works perfectly.

Re: dock on multiple workspaces
Simply adding a rule to Copy the RocketDock executable did not suffice for me -- on all but the first desktop, the dock's icons were invisible and did not respond to clicks. The suggestion to edit the ini file did the trick. Thanks!

First remove the two lines mentioned in my posting above from the wechsel.ini and restart Dexpot. Then open Desktop Rules, click on Import rules and load the RocketDock rule from this file:

I have 2 virtual desktop, with desktop2 only have running rocketdock. I enabled minimize windows to dock but the problem is the window, browser etc.. in desktop1 is minimizing in desktop2 with rocketdock, is there away to make desktop1 minimize in windows toolbar instead in desktop2 rocketdock?
Re: dock on multiple workspaces

I don't think that's possible. Such a feature would have to be implemented in RocketDock itself.
Re: dock on multiple workspaces
Hi to all,
Fist of all i would like to thank you all for making this AMAZING application.
I LOVE IT!
Now here is what I would like to do.
I have RkLauncher and I want it to be displayed on all 4 desktops.
I add a rule...
RK Launcher
_____________
Conditions:
Executable is RKLauncher.exe
and Window title is RKLauncher
____________
Actions:
Copy to all desktops
Is this all good?
(I also tried this with notepad...everything is same but still nothing)
Now when I go to 2nd desktop there is no RK Launcher...same with 3rd and 4th.
Oh and I'm using 4 desktops

Re: dock on multiple workspaces
Oh i found the solution!
Open wechsel.ini and under
[Exe] type
RKLauncher.exe=sticky
It didn't work because when you create new rule i guess it doesn't put it there.
But anyway next time you want to add new rule go to your
wechsel.ini and put it there...
And this will also help you
http://dexpot.de/forum/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=1915
sticky
move
close
ignore
hide
are commands you want to use
sticky sees to it that the specified window will be ignored when switching desktops, and thus will be visible on all desktops.
move sees to it that the specified window will be locked into the Explorer cage when switching desktops. (That's an in-joke for saying the window will be moved off-screen instead of being made invisible. Use this e.g. when an application copies itself to other desktops.)
close sees to it that the specified windows will be closed when switching desktops.
ignore sees to it that the specified windows will not be shown in any of Dexpot's components (also making them sticky in the process).
hide sees to it that the specified windows will be hidden when switching desktops.
I hope i helped those who want same as I.

Re: dock on multiple workspaces

Glad to hear you found a solution for your problem.

To clarify though, you only need either the copy rule or the sticky exception in mywechsel.ini. The sticky exception overrides any move or copy rules. The rule you gave in your first post works fine for me.

Actually, Dexpot is several years older than Spaces. So if anything, Spaces would be a Dexpot clone for OS X...
Re: dock on multiple workspaces
hi, first of all i love this program. it's very helpful when organizing certain windows to certain desktops instead of cramming 15 windows on one desktop..
i'm here because i'm trying to use dexpot with rocketdock.
when i have dexpot open my rocketdock that was working before i ran dexpot, freezes and doesn't work anymore, it's still there but i cannot click anything, but go to rocketdock options(right click)
please help!
thank you for the software and i hope to see more publicity and development for the future.

Re: dock on multiple workspaces

Windows version? Dexpot version? Have you made changes to any Dexpot .ini files?

Re: dock on multiple workspaces
Upgrade to Dexpot 1.6 Beta. Use the "Assign Applications" feature to assign RocketDock to "all desktops" and then restart RocketDock.

Re: dock on multiple workspaces
I'm unsing version 1.6.4 of Dexpot and version 1.3.5 of rocket dock. Windows 7 as operating system. When I assign the rocketDock to all desktops it works great but if I use the autohide function in rocketdock then it will only appear in the first desktop. Any clues as to how to overcome this. Thanks!
Re: dock on multiple workspaces
I'm digging this post up because I too have a problem with running Dexpot and RocketDock simultaneously.
On my system, RocketDock launches at system startup. I do not always launch Dexpot. But each time I do, I realize that I can no longer use the dock: the dock's image remains on screen on all four destops I have configured but it no longer reacts. Put differently, the zoom effect can not be seen, the icons can not be clicked BUT the context menu still works so I can exit RD and launch it again, which will make everything "normal", i.e. the dock will work as expected on all desktops.
The wechsel.ini modification offered by Patrick to the original poster is, on my system, already in the file. So I'm at a loss here as to what to do. Does anyone have a solution?
Thanks.
