Windows 7 introduces a new taskbar in which you can pin applications you use most often. Is it possible to have different applications pinned on each desktop's taskbar?

Yes I also didn't find this option anywhere in the software. It would be a great feature, the only one that still keeps me from running it on my main system. Please make a plugin for this feature to work.

This would be a nice feature to have, but as far as I know, it's not possible to pin or unpin taskbar items programmatically.

Aren't the pinned programs just shortcuts present in the user/appdata/microsoft/internet explorer folder?

I guess there could be some kind of workaround to make it work, like running a separate explorer process for each desktop, similar to Microsoft sysinternals virtual desktop application?

I cannot agree with Patrick. Do you use Chrome? If so, go Tools -> Create application shortcuts ... and choose Pin to taskbar. As you see, application was programatically pinned to the taskbar (instant effect)
