Desktop Manager

I do have two questions actually.
Is there any other way to put the Desktop Manager in another configuration (ie as a 3x3 box instead of all in a single line)?
And if not, is there a way to only have the icons in the Desktop Preview? I managed to do a 3x3 box but the names of the icons annoy me a littke.
