Multiple Monitors

Postby elspag » 16.10.2015 16:37:44

Hello,
First of all, I wanna thank you for this awesome app! It really helps have everything organized!

There is, although, one issue I can't find nothing conclusive.
What I would like to do is:
I have 2 monitors. Let's call them monitor 1 and monitor 2. And I just want to use 2 single desktops.
In monitor 1 I want to be able to change between desktop 1 and desktop 2. In monitor 2 I want it always showing desktop 2.

Is this possible? If yes, how?
By the way, I'm using Windows 10 x64.

Thank you for your help.

Settings -> Switching Desktops -> Monitors

Example screenshots in my thread (http://dexpot.de/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=6168) except it seems there's issues if the monitor is in Portrait View.

I tried that but it changes as well on the monitor I have disabled monitor from there.
What I don't know is if it is Windows 10 ou Dexpot fault.

It must be windows 10, because it has always worked faultlessly for me using XP32, XP64 and W7.

But you're right otherwise it is a great app!

"Unfortunately" for this topic, I never needed this feature when I was in Windows 7
Hope this feature becomes available in Windows 10 :beten:

:dex:,

seems you're mixing up things here. You can't make monitor 2 always show desktop 2. You're able to exclude monitor 2 from desktop switching in general, though.

So, what you telling me is something like this?
Monitor 1 can switch to all desktops I have (in my case I only have 2 desktops)
If I choose to exclude monitor 2 from desktop switching, this monitor will only show desktop 1? is that it?

But, anyway, even if I exclude monitor 1 or monitor 2 from desktop switching they will change anyway.... in windows 10

Sorry, but this is really bothering me :?

EDIT: and does that option works when monitors are in duplicate mode? or only in extend?

yes.

Wrote that down for compatibility testing.

Duplicate only.

(Using Windows 7.)

If you're referring to the Windows "Connect to a Projector" feature:
I always use WIN_KEY+P to pull it up (default Windows 7 hotkey)
and use "Connect to a Projector" >> "Extend"

Windows Projector >> "Extend"
does work with Dexpot Monitor Exclusion.

I have never used Windows with its projector "Duplicate" setting.

in Dexpot:
Settings >> Switching Desktops >> Monitors,
untick the screen you want to not be affected.

This feature does *not* affect your Desktop Icons
(even if you do have toggled on:
Settings >> Switching Desktops >> Desktop elements
>> Desktop icons >> Customize desktop icons [on] )

This feature *does* affect which windows display (or hide)
upon a Dexpot screen switch

Example:

I have two monitors.
I have the left one excluded.
I have the right one affected by Dexpot switching.

I keep my music app on the left one.
I keep different workspaces on the right one.

When I switch Dexpot Desktop Screens:

My left monitor stays the same,
the music app stays right where I put it,
& the right monitor changes.

If I am on desktop 1,
& move a window from my right monitor
to my left monitor

when I switch to desktop 2
that window will still be on my left monitor.
but my right monitor's windows will change.

Hope this clarifies.
Haven't tried Windows 10 + Dexpot, so no clue there.

To all:
Have a fantastic day!
