Dexpot Forum

Hello,

First off, I wanted to thank the developers for making this incredible application and allowing free personal usage

Until version 1.5, I didn't encounter any issues and was using a single display. When I upgraded to 1.6, I also added another monitor so had dual displays and that is when I encountered some issues. Not sure if that is caused by my lack of understanding or not. I did a fresh installation (uninstalled 1.6, deleted the Dexpot file in C:\Users\PantherX\AppData\Roaming\Dexpot\) yet the same issue occurred. Below is a description of my issues:

1) With 1.5, under the Plugins and Extra, I had Dexcube and Taskbar Pager enabled. When I installed 1.6, I had both of them plus, I added MouseEvents (Ctrl+Horizontal Scroll Wheel to change the desktop screen). That works perfectly fine until I reboot the system. After rebooting the system, either the Dexcube or Taskbar Pager is unchecked so I have to check them again. Since I don't restart my laptop that often, it is manageable but I am wondering if there is a limit to the number of Plugins and Extras that can be active at a time. If so, could it be mentioned and/or increased?

2) It took me a while to configure the second screen to show the windows whenever I changed the primary screen. Is it possible to add the word "Disable" under the grey monitor in the Monitor's Tab in Switching Desktop? It was slightly confusing as I could only see blue or grey colour without any indication of what colour stands for what. With either a key or "Disabled", it would enhance the user experience.

3) After excluding the second monitor, when I tried dragging the window icon present in the Taskbar Pager to a different one, it simply won't move. I can move the windows that are present in the primary screen so I am not sure why this behavior isn't consistent.

4) In the Taskbar Pager, I would expect 4 pages for the primary screen and 1 page for the secondary screen (since I don't want individual screens on that monitor). However, I get 4 for each monitor so a total of 8. This significantly reduces the space in the taskbar. I have marked the secondary screen page with red arrows and the reduced taskbar space with yellow arrows since pictures speak a thousand words


I have even attached my profile so that my settings can be viewed to see if the issue is on my end or not.


I am running Windows 8 64 bit. If there is need for more information, I would be glad to provide it and even test possible solutions if needed

Does this also happen when you manually exit and restart Dexpot? Does it happen when you run Dexpot without administrator privileges?

Because there is nowhere to drag them to. Moving windows between monitors is currently not supported in the pager.

That's expected behavior. There will be an option to hide excluded monitors in a future version.

When I manually exit and restart Dexpot as an administrator user, the issue is still there. However, when I run it as a standard uer, this issue isn't present. Moreover, I noticed another behavior difference:
With administrator privileges -> Whenever I switch the desktop, both monitors rotated.
Without administrator privileges -> Whenever I switched the desktop, only the laptop screen (primary) rotated.
Not sure if this is a bug or a feature. Personally, I prefer both monitors rotating.

Ok. Please save the attached file to your Dexpot installation folder and try again as administrator.

With administrator privileges -> Whenever I switch the desktop, both monitors rotated.
Without administrator privileges -> Whenever I switched the desktop, only the laptop screen (primary) rotated.

There aren't supposed to be transition animations on excluded monitors, so it's a bug.

Sure, eventually.

BTW, any thoughts about tweaking the monitor tab (point 2)?

You're right, relying solely on color perception probably isn't the best UI design. On the other hand, it's actually similar to the multi-monitor display settings in the Windows control panel.

I replaced the file in C:\Program Files (x86)\Dexpot and I not longer have the issue of the missing plug-in! Thanks for the prompt fix

Okay, is there any possibility that you can change this bug into a feature, i.e. on the Monitor's tab, have a check box which states:
Desktop switching animation occurs on excluded monitor.
I do like this "bug". However, if it complicates other parts of the code, then I can understand if it will be removed in future versions.

If you want to use the Windows display setting, how about you select this which appears in Windows 7 when you press Windows key + P:
The diagonal red line on the screen which indicates disabled screen:

That way, you can still keep the theme of Windows User Interface. I prefer this over Windows 8.

Also, is it possible to add the "Random" transition effect in Dexcube? That way, it will automatically select any of the transition and would add to the eye-candy
