Desktop Icons moving

When I change from one desktop to another sometimes the desktop icons move. It's usually the column of icons that doesn't fill the screen from top to bottom. Usually they shift down, but sometimes there will be a gap in the middle of the column. Has anyone else had this problem? Any suggestions to fix it?
