[Solved] Charms Bar Issue in Windows 8

Postby Scott Myers » 09.03.2013 01:03:38

First let me thank the developers for offering such a solid application as Dexpot. This is one of the few programs that actually makes Windows 8 user experience somewhat pleasant! And it's free for consumers, which is awesome!

Nevertheless, I have an issue that I can't seem to solve. I couldn't find any reference to the to this issue on this forum. Basically: when I am working on a desktop that is not the primary desktop (e.g. desktop 3) and I use the charms bar, it forces me back to the primary desktop. Then, when I use desktop preview to try to get back to the non-primary desktop, often it keeps switching me back to the primary desktop. Very frustrating when I'm trying to get work done!

I have a touch-screen laptop, but this issue arises regardless of whether I bring up the charms bar with a touch gesture, the touchpad, or an external mouse. However, sometimes the charms bar works okay, but if I use the 'search' function it forces me back to desktop 1. I find if I stay on a non-primary desktop long enough (an hour or so), the problem goes away.

Any advice? I'm running dexpot version 1.6.6 in Windows 8, non-pro.

Finally found a solution to my own problem! Went to Settings-->Plugins and Extras-->Advanced and ticked the 'Disable window recovery' option in the dialog box. Rebooted and...problem solved! Doesn't seem to have any bad side effects. Hope my little ordeal can help others.

:dex:

Disabling "window recovery" actually has a lot of (mostly subtle) side effects.

Do you have the option "Settings > Plugins and Extras > Behavior of windows on other desktops" set to "Switch to the respective desktop"?
