How can I move or place my virtual desktop icons somewhere other than the default location on my screen ? At present they are appearing just right of center in the middle of my wide-screen monitor. I know that I can switch them off but I like them there for convenience.

Are you talking about the "Desktop Manager"?



You can drag it where you want on the screen using the mouse: click on the blue background, hold the mouse button pressed and move the mouse. That's assuming the option "Lock position" (Settings > Components > Desktop Manager) is not enabled.
