Google Chrome Apps

Chrome Apps like Gmail and Calendar can't have any desktop rules applied to them, they have the same executable and window class as any other Google Chrome window - I'd like to have those two apps specifically naturally open on separate desktops automatically.

What about window titles? Or do you have another suggestion how we're supposed to distinguish them from any other Google Chrome window?

You could use "configure Desktops > Start-up" to open them automatically when you switch to a desktop the first time.

If there's no other way to identify and separate windows, would it be possible to create a shortcut to that program that somehow, when clicked, opens by default on a specific desktop?

No, not yet. But you could write a small script that first switches to the desired desktop and then launches Chrome.
