opening links in chrome from other desktops unmaximizes it

I have dexpot set up to automatically switch desktops to the active application, mostly for opening links from apps in other desktops (mintty, thunderbird) on the desktop where I have Chrome.

I usually have Chrome maximized, but when dexpot switches to it to open a link, it becomes restored.

One workaround is that I can just resize the window to take up the whole screen, but it still looks much better maximized, the tabs take up much less space.

Is it possible that this could be fixed?
