Dexpot occassionally "freezes" for ~20 seconds

I have a 3x3 desktop configuration. I very often use keys to move between desktops. I'll very often press the key 2-3 times in a row to move to a particular desktop. For instance, if I'm in the bottom-left desktop I'll press "up" twice and then "right" quickly in succession.
I often get to a point where Dexpot suddenly freezes when I'm trying to move to another desktop, sometimes for ~20 seconds. If I hover the mouse in the preview window, the mouse goes to the "busy" state (I would have called it the "hourglass" cursor in previous years).
This could just be due to overall performance issues with my computer, but it seems like Dexpot is the main application that appears to be affected.
