Can't get custom icons to work

Postby ScOULaris » 02.06.2010 19:07:06

Hey Dexpot team,

I have not been able to get a particular icon set to work for the system tray icon using the directions found here:

http://dexpot.de/forum/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=2320&start=0

This is the icon set that I am trying to use:
http://browse.deviantart.com/?qh=&section=&q=virtuawin#/d2dw3c3

I used that icon set with VirtuaWin before I made the switch to Dexpot, but after following your instructions I'm still getting the default blue box with a number.

Here's what I did:
- Made new folder in C:\Program Files (x84)\Dexpot called "icons"
- Made another folder within "icons" called "newicons"
- Renamed the icons in the link above to d1, d2, d3, and d4 and placed them in the "newicons" folder
- Went into regedit and modified the value of Trayiconset to "newicons"
- Restarted Dexpot

Did I do anything wrong? Or do the icons that I am trying to use not comply with the 16x16, 32-bit, no alpha channel rules?

Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated. I love those icons.

What are those icons in the zip file? Are some of those the original icons without the alpha channel?

I put all of them into my "newicons" folder, but it's still not showing the custom icons for me.

Should I be using d1, d2, d3, and d4 or d1a, d2a, d3a, and d4a?

If d1a-d4a have had their alpha channels removed, I will rename them to d1-d4 and try again.

I put all of them, d1-d4 and d1a-d4a in my newicons folder, restarted Dexpot, and I'm still seeing the default blue box with a number.

That's all I should need to do, right? Put the icons that you uploaded in my newicons folder and restart Dexpot?

this works solely for the 'One icon per desktop' and 'Current desktop' setting.

Okay, I figured out what was going on. I had to temporarily turn off "Run as Administrator" in Dexpot in order for the Registry Key value change to not be overwritten each time I restarted Dexpot.

So now the icons work, but could you do me one more little favor? When you stripped the alpha channel from the icons, you accidentally made d1.ico from the original 0.ico. So the d1 icon that I have right now is just a blank monitor with no green box indicating the top left corner.

Could you make a non-alpha channel version of 1.ico from the icon found here?

Thank you for all your help resolving this issue for me!

Thanks! All is well now that I have my sleek, Windows 7-appropriate tray icons.
