Dragging windows between desktops?

Is there any way to drag windows between desktops (without using the desktop preview)? I'm trying to get a OSX Spaces alternative for Windows and I would like to see this functionality if its not yet possible.

You do it through the window manager, but when you shut down windows especially in Vista the icons are placed back on the main desktop desktop1. But they disappear back to the desktop you placed them on when you load dexpot after the machine starts. All you do is drag the icons to the right desktop you want for example from desktop 1 to desktop 4.

Sometimes doing it this way leaves some icons behind with my system it left one icon behind, but that same icon was in the corresponding desktop. Which is quite strange.
Maybe there is a way to lock the icons to these specific desktops without having this problem. But i am yet to find it. Due to the lack of a good Manual.
