Vista problem

Postby Multi » 19.05.2009 21:25:45

I have been having problem with icons on my screen 1 for some time. I have now removed all screen icon saver programs and after removing dexpot altogether, rebooting and re-installing it,
I now have a rather curious problem.

When I right-click on a window frame, Dexpot shows up twice in the context menu, as it does in the task manager; once as "dexpot.exe *32 ... The utillity for virtual desktops" and a second time as "Dexpot64.exe .... Dexpot64 Message Window"

I could not figure out how to include a screen capture gif, not how to attach a file, so you'll have to take my word for it at present.

BTW, I'm running 64-bit Vista Home premium on a 64-bit AMD Phenom X4 Mobo.

Nabend. :dex:

Having two Dexpot processes on x64 Windows is normal.

Do the system menu entries appear twice on absolutely all windows? Are the commands from both sets of entries working? Try disabling and re-enabling the system menu option in the Dexpot settings (appearance).

That is good to know.

Th system menu entries don't appear on all windows - the ones I know of, and which don't have the system menu, are Computer, Control Panel, Network and such.

Disabling the system menu option removes the Dexpot entry as expected. Re-enabling it changes the menu to have only one entry.

However after the next reboot the second entry reappears. In the latest reboot, the icons of the main screen 1 all moved to the top left corner - not overlapping, but certainly not in their original and intended positions.
Note this reboot was forced by some Windows update process, but I don't see how or why it would cause this, since the icons on screens 2-4 remain as and where they were.

On at least one other occasion, some of the icons I wanted moved to other screens reappeared on screen 1 on the right, just to the left of the gadget bar.

BTW, this system is using a wide LCD screen (1280x1024) if that makes any difference - and I am using two monitors - the second one a plain old CRT

Does this still occur with build 757?

For some windows it seems OK now, but for others I still get two entries in the system menu.

The major difference seems to be for regular apps it shows only one entry, but for windows such as Computer, there still are two.

Disabling the 'context menu' entry in Settings -> appearance removes one copy in all windows I have tried.

Guess I forgot to log-in for my previous answer.

In addition, installing the latest build, also lost all but one icon off screen one. Although 'lost' might be not entirely accurate, since trying to add one particular icon forced its name to have the appendix (2), implying that the icon/link still was part of the desktop, but was invisible because it was off screen??

Just now, I had to reboot and then after switching back to my regular user account from my admin account, most of the icons I had on my screen 1 were left in their intended position, but some moved and others from screens 2 - 4 ended up on screen 1 again
