mouse switch on edge with two monitors

Hi team,
I am running Vista and have to monitors with the desktop stretched over both. I would like to use the mouse switch whereby you move the cursor to the edge to switch the desktop. However it switches as soon as I move the cursor to the second screen. Is this how it is or am I doing something wrong in the setup.
