Summary
Maxifiles.com distributes spyware called Director. It runs hidden from the user and installs in a way to appear to be part of the operating system.
Detailed Description
The software communicates with Maxifiles’ servers and receives scripts commands from the server. Director masks itself as a windows component by using service32 as its process name and windows as its folder name. There is no uninstaller for Director or any indication to the user that it is running.
Maxifiles’ website is a web portal for various interests. Usage of the webpage is tracked. There have also been reports that Maxifiles products link to phishing websites.
A question:

The program creators should answer this question quickly and firmly.
However, it seems likely that this may be a false positive on the part of F-Secure (or something added by a third party distributor if you downloaded from there). Counterspy and NOD32 did not detect anything before, during or after the installation on my test machine. Files submitted to Virus Total came back clean all the way. Mcafee Site Advisor states about the site:
"10 green downloads
In our tests, we found downloads on this site were free of adware, spyware, and other unwanted programs."
