Help using Dexgrid

I am having a hard time trying to use Dexgrid. I have a 2560x1440 dpi monitor, configured for nine virtual desktops. I would like to change one of those vd's to a grid scheme, so that I can split say vd #1 to four vd's on an evenly split grid.

I cannot figure out how to do that. I've enabled Dexgrid, I've made sure the animation is checked, but I do not see any difference.

Can someone guide me through doing this?

Dexgrid won't split single virtual desktops. It organizes your virtual desktops (see desktop count in 'Settings > General') into rows and columns. The animations is shown as you switch between desktops.
