I have a naming problem too, but it doesn´t refer to the different Desktops of Dexpot but to the Folders in Explorer created according to created new Desktops in Dexpot and named Desktop 2, Desktop 3 .....
I´m looking for a way to renaming or at least adding additional comments to them. This make sense to increase quicker overview e.g. in order to pick the right desktop number when moving a symbol / link from Public Desktop to User Desktop so that it does not appear any more on all Dexpot desktops.
Unfortunately it was not possible renaming the folders. When trying
(1) to change the whole name though the renamed folder appears the folder with the original (Dexpot-) name comes back after a time but does not contain the symbols and corresponding to that the Dexpot desktop is empty
(2) to add some more explaining text to the original (Dexpot-) name (e.g. Desktop this folder continue to display its symbols but the corresponding Dexpot desktop stays empty.
Is there a way to force Dexpot to refer to folders with changed names?
By the way: the folder which contains "Computer" it isn´t possible at all renaming it. What may be the reason for this?

Re: Can I name the desktops?
There was a mistake in the post above. I couldn´t find a revise button, so I display the whole sentence again:
2) to add some more explaining text to the original (Dexpot-) name (e.g. Desktop 5 xyz) this folder continue to display its symbols but the corresponding Dexpot desktop stays empty.
2) to add some more explaining text to the original (Dexpot-) name (e.g. Desktop 5 xyz) this folder continue to display its symbols but the corresponding Dexpot desktop stays empty.

Re: Can I name the desktops?
Further completion is necessary to paragraph (2), because I just discovered that this option behaves the same way like the one discribed in paragraph (1) did:
"...the folder with the original (Dexpot-) name comes back after a time "
"...the folder with the original (Dexpot-) name comes back after a time "
Desktop folder names
Good day
I have 10 desktops and I want to back up and clean up the Dexpot installation because it is difficult to manage from Windows (8.1).
Here is the problem:
When I look in <Drive>\Users\<username>\ I see 10 folders as expected.
They are:
Desktop 3, 5, 6, 8, 9 and 10
PLUS there are four folders that are just named 'Desktop'.
This is not consistent with the command window:
Dir De* yields 'Desktop' and Desktop 2 4 7 9 and 10
Dir /ah De* shows Desktop 3 5 6 and 8
So the first point is that there must be some hidden attributes that I may need to consider.
The reason for the 'duplicates' is obvious though:
Full DOS names are:
20/01/2015 20:43 <DIR> DESKTO~2 Desktop 3
31/01/2015 15:41 <DIR> DEFEC6~1 Desktop 5
14/02/2015 12:54 <DIR> DED835~1 Desktop 6
05/03/2015 07:49 <DIR> DESKTO~4 Desktop 8
C:\Users\david>dir /x desktop*
17/02/2015 21:00 <DIR> Desktop
20/04/2014 16:27 <DIR> DE2E77~1 Desktop 10
03/03/2015 23:29 <DIR> DESKTO~1 Desktop 2
21/02/2015 23:09 <DIR> DESKTO~3 Desktop 4
20/01/2015 17:57 <DIR> DE2340~1 Desktop 7
24/01/2015 20:21 <DIR> DE57B9~1 Desktop 9
Is there a way to clean up these names so that it is easier to back up and restore desktops?
If I do a clean installation of Dexpot, create 10 new desktops and copy in the shortcuts from the above folders will that do the job?
Many thanks

Re: Desktop folder names
,Dexpot just uses the relative paths to the original desktop folder for the additional desktop folders 1 to n.

Hi Sebastian.
I'm not sure which question you have answered as mine was hijacked.
Would it be possible to ask people to create a new thread for other subjects?
I would appreciate a more detailed answer to my original questions if you could.
Many thanks

Re: Desktop folder names
,not sure what went wrong in your case. Backup the contents of the folders, then delete them. Folders are re-created when you first visit them with Dexpot. You may now distribute your files from backup across the new folders.
Hope that's what you were looking for.
