Dexcube transition effects don't work

Basically, Dexcube's default Cube effect works fine, but if I switch to any other effect (including None) it just keeps using Cube as if I hadn't changed anything. I've tried clicking Apply and Okay and even restarting Dexpot--still just Cube. The Zoom setting doesn't seem to change anything either.

Any thoughts?

Dexcube has two modes: manual and automatic. In manual mode, you activate Dexcube using its Ctrl-Alt-Arrow-key shortcuts and Dexcube will switch desktops once you release the keys. When you trigger a desktop switch any other way, e.g. using the Alt-number-key hotkeys, the Dexpot main menu or the full-screen preview, Dexcube animates the transition in automatic mode. The effect and zoom settings only apply to automatic mode. Manual mode always shows the cube.
