Updating

Postby wapanap » 17.05.2010 11:45:14

I am using a Windows 7 Home Premium machine fully patched.I had a problem when updating Dexpot to the latest version (151_r1109). I quit Dexpot and ran the installer, but it said one of Dexpot's files was still in use and it could not proceed. Making sure that Dexpot was not set to start with Windows, I rebooted, but Dexpot started anyway. I quit Dexpot again and ran the installer, but again found this particular file (I think it was hooxpot.dll) was in use, so I had no option but to proceed by ignoring this file. So now I have a partially updated installation, with one file from the previous version -- does this matter? How can I update fully?

Hi, :dex:

making sure that Dexpot doesn't start with Windows is key, indeed. If you've ever run Dexpot as administrator, there's a chance that a left-over entry in the Task Scheduler is starting Dexpot even though you've disabled the option in the settings. That's another bug fixed in the new version by the way. Look here for the solution: [FAQ] Duplicate start-up

In this particular case, using the old version of hooxpot.dll isn't life threatening (it won't crash or anything like that), but you would be missing some of the bugfixes. This problem would still occur for instance.

These solutions also fix several other issues I was facing including

- unable to start plugins (dexcube, sevendex etc)
- settings not saving intermittently
- it seems to be more stable.

Thanks
