Well, this prodlem is very old to me (and there was topics on this forum about it).
I just thought may be you can add disabling "show shadows under menus" (winXP, system properties, advanced, performance) then starting Dexpot. Beсause it's easy to do:

SystemParametersInfo(SPI_SETDROPSHADOW, NULL, FALSE, SPIF_UPDATEINIFILE|SPIF_SENDCHANGE);
