IE hangs during auto-refresh when switching screens

I have a web monitoring applition that performs an auto-refresh every two minutes. If I switch screens and the refresh happens in IE, when I switch back to the screen that has the IE window the IE session is hung trying to update. I can press F5 to refresh again and it will work. If I stay on the screen that has IE the refreshs work fine.

If you need any more details please let me know.
