How can I activate plugins?

Hi,
i'm using Dexpot at least for... 20min(?), and i really love it! I read at the website that I can activate plugins by clicking at the checkboxes next to the plugin's name in the setting, but when I do so, nothing happens! Do I have to install the plugins before or what? If so, how can I do that?
