Also kills the button order. Basically, everything that's pinned but not currently running will be moved to the right end of the taskbar.

I don't actually know for sure that it's impossible, but I'm not aware of any way to do it.

It is possible to redirect the "User Pinned" folder, but Explorer doesn't refresh the taskbar when you do so and you'd probably lose your button ordering as well.

I would too be very much interested in why it is not possible.

Hello, Patrick! Could you please explain in brief why isn't it possible? I'm wondering because it's still possible to redisplay taskbar icons of running apps when switching desktops and change desktop icons. So, the problem should be in either that storage of pinned taskbar icons setting is not available from WinAPI or there is no function to refresh with that new setting, right?

It sure would be. Unfortunately it's not technically possible.

Not sure if this is already possible.. but I could find a way to do it.
I am using Windows 7. It would be very helpful if I could configure every desktop to have a different set of programs that are pinned to the taskbar.
I use one desktop for music, one for work, etc... I don't want to see my music program buttons on my work desktop.. they just take a lot of space and clutter everything.
