On the off chance that I'm repeating myself, this already exists and it's called "hibernate". At least that's as close as you will get. We can't simply implement such a feature on the application level. It has to be done by the operating system.

This already exists as well and it's called a "hypervisor".

I am working one ONE machine. It is PORTABLE and WONDERFUL.
I would appreciate some guidance from the people who helped make it that way.

the ONLY time I MUST reboot is when I AM REQUIRED to use Linux for CREATIVE purposes.
(( it's a machine for ARTISTS ))

Every time this happens, I have all my "things" set up on my 4 Windows Workspaces.
(( it's like an ART STUDIO ))

So I either need:
a: the ability to SAVE my DEXPOT SESSIONS when I log off
or b: the ability to switch the OS whenever I want (( without losing my "place" ))

Which is why they invented hibernation (suspend to disk).

To Clarify:

I use a LAPTOP.

It's PORTABLE.

I LIKE to turn it OFF when I'm not using it.

It saves BATTERY LIFE.

I also LIKE to be able to return to my WORKSPACE
and see it just as I've left it.

I am INTERESTED in BUILDING a MACHINE
CAPABLE of HOT SWAPPING operating systems
much like you can hot swap a HARD DRIVE

Hibernation shuts down the system. You can then REBOOT.

This would be a great feature to have

Reasons:
- I utilize Dual Boot Machines
-- sometimes i boot to Win 7
-- sometimes i boot to Ubuntu Linux
- Dexpot is installed on Windows OS to simulate Linux Workspaces
-- I frequently reboot to Linux for R&D purposes
--- When rebooting, I would prefer to return to my Previous Workspace Sessions
- NO, i cannot use a VM
-- The tests I am conducting do not run inside a Virtual Machine

Another :idea:

find?build a HotSwap Box for Computer Operating Systems.

I'm sorry, but I'm not sure why you need to shutdown to logoff both users.
Is it that you need to kill all of the other person's jobs to free up memory and cpu?

You might consider creating a much larger paging file (3x the size of main memory) so there will be room to swap out all of the other person's programs so they have less impact on the current login session. Getting more RAM will help, too, but will cost some money.

If the computer has enough resources (RAM and disk space), Switch User will let you alternate between the two login sessions, preserving all windows and jobs, even if one has "locked the screen". Just type Ctrl-Alt-Del to get the option.

Hibernate can be done from either account, even if the account doing it is non-privileged. The states of both logins are preserved, although programs which depend on a constantly active network connection (like a remote login using PuTTY) will get an error.

You know?... sometimes the eases solutions are the hardest to find..
No I did not use it.. But it will do in many occasions; however we are two users in this computer therefore it is need to log off altogether....

Of course, there are still many cases which require a reboot, but Hibernate does preserve all windows.
