The file disappeared because it was moved to the target desktop's folder. So only the switching part doesn't work. The default path for Desktop 2 is "C:\Users\%username%\Desktop 2" and accordingly for other desktop numbers. Check there if you want the file back.

Haha, it worked! The shared folder option worked like a charm.
And yeah, I dragged the file onto the Desktop Manager, and it disappeared from the desktop I was on, but didn't re-appear on the other. It was just an image though, no big deal.
Thank you for your help :D

Well, if anything prevents you from changing shell folder locations, then separate folder icon customization can't work. If your desktop is stored somewhere on a network share and you don't have write access to its parent folder, then it won't work either.

Go to "Settings > Switching Desktops > Desktop elements > Desktop icons > Advanced" and select "Use a shared common folder for all desktops". This way there is only a virtual separation between desktops, which should still work in such a situation.

EDIT: I dragged a file onto the Desktop Management window and tried to send it to the other screen. It destroyed the file.

Destroyed the file? :hö:

I just installed Dexpot, and made my own profile for it, and I noticed that I can't have different icons on each desktop, even though I've selected the "Custom Desktop Icons" option.
Even when I tell it to not use the windows desktop, my original desktop icons remain. If I make a new file, it's sent to my windows desktop too. It's as if the option isn't selected at all. I've watched the public desktop folder, and that isn't changing at all - both desktops are reading from the windows one even though I've said for it not to use the windows one at all.

The only thing I can imagine that affects this is that my computer is running my network's group policy. I am a local administrator. Is there anything I can do to make each desktop unique?
