Using the start menu is a great workaround!

I'm still curious why the desktop shortcuts were disabled every restart. Do you know what might have been disabling my shortcut keys every time I rebooted?

P.S. For anyone who finds this thread and needs help creating shortcuts in the the start menu, open the start menu right-click 'All Programs' and select 'Open All Users.' This opens the Start Menu folder. I made a folder in 'Programs' called 'Hotkeys' so I wouldn't clutter the start menu. Unfortunately, the Start Menu won't let you make new shortcuts in it so you'll need to either make it let you (That's the hard way.) or copy shortcuts from the desktop. If your hotkeys still don't work, removing them and reapplying them may work.

I don't think this has anything to do with Dexpot. Using Windows 7, when I create a shortcut somewhere, set a Ctr+Alt hotkey for it, and then move the shortcut file to different folder, the hotkey stops working. The same thing happens when you move the shortcut from one desktop to another.

You could use shortcut files in the Start menu to define your hotkeys. This way they won't be affected by moving stuff between desktops.

Some time since I downloaded Dexpot, I've been unable to use the keyboard shortcuts that I assigned certain desktop shortcuts. I think this may have something to do with the fact that my desktops are in multiple folders now. I could get the shortcuts to work still if I put them in my primary desktop and did not start Dexpot with windows. However, when I started Dexpot, and moved the shortcut to desktop 2, it stopped working. So, I'm thinking that it has something to do with Dexpot. My theory is that Dexpot is actually enabling the functionality for other desktops and when I close it and restart windows doesn't get the memo so it just plain 'forgets,' and I not sure how do save that data to Dexpot. NOTE: Closing and relaunching Dexpot does not 'erase' the keyboard shortcut.
