Dexpot doesn't touch the physical files on the desktop at all. If there really is stuff being deleted, then it's not caused by Dexpot.

I've been having the exactly the same issues as the previous poster. When I shut down, the icons on the desktop shuffle around - some disappear while others from other desktops appear for no reason. It's a real brief flash when the icons scramble around for a half-second right before the computer shuts down. And when I reboot, the desktop icons appear the same as they did in that short flash before the computer shuts down.

I have tried using "Desktop Windows" in Windows 7 to make the icons reappear. But sometimes the icons are just gone! I mean, Dexpot seems to be deleting them rather than simply forgetting they are there.

I have SyncBack syncing my desktop icons and backing them up upon shutdown, so when these icons get expunged I can at least back them up. But isn't there a way to fix this issue?

One more thing, everytime when i start or shutdown my system, number of different desktop icons appear in the current screen, and sometimes when you restart the system, some of these items are precisely those that are gone or changed.

Hello everyone, I'm having problems similar to those cited, but with some differences.

I set to 4 desktops, and the first does not contain any icon, but the others have different icons and some icons in common as the trash for example.

Every time I reboot, some icon eventually disappears, some are more stable but still sometimes things disappear, the problem is that whenever something goes off. the times randomly.

Interestingly, some of the icons that disappear just end up appearing on the desktop which should have no icon. Sometimes it happened all the icons disappear from desktop and ending up in another.

Some things I noticed:

1-Switch between saved profiles sometimes solves.
2 - often moving the icon from the desktop to the trash, and restoring proper function to the desktop, but it is very annoying.
3 - sometimes I have to recreate the icon, but when I create it only lets me create the "copy file (2). Exe", as if something existed there.
4 - sometimes a simple log off is enough to mess up the icons.
5 - some of my icons have lost their image, giving it that appearance unknown file.

Pardon my English, it is not very good.

Anyway I appreciate the help because I am thinking about giving up mult-use desktop and separate things into folders and subfolders and I want that!

I've had the problem of the disappearing icon happen to me several times.

It's usually always caused by an icon being set in the bottom left or right corner of the screen when... you switch from a higher resolution to a lower resolution. (I switch back and forth between monitors with vastly different resolutions so this happens to me quite often).

I always fix this by going to a very high resolution and moving the icons in the corner to the center of the center or top of the screen.

I have a similar problem I think.
Some (only a few) desktop icons just do not show. I have a few mp3 files and a pdf file on the desktop - I know they are there, but I cannot restore them to sight.
I can open the Dexpot 'Desktop Windows', and search for them - it will find them. I can even move them between desktops and back (apparently). But still they cannot be [i]seen [/i]on the desktops !
I've tried the 'Hidden' button, but it appears there are not actually 'hidden' (?!?)

The files do not have duplicate names, although for two of the mp3 files, the names have over 50 characters (long name), with only the last few characters different between them. A third mp3 file is a completely different name (& under 30 characters) and doesn't show. The pdf file also has no duplicates in names, and doesn't show.

I can manually (using Windows Explorer) navigate to the Desktop 'folder', and see (and open) them from there - in fact its the [i]only [/i]way I can open them.

I have other mp3 & pdf files on the desktops, and it sees them (so far!) just fine.

I'm using Windows XP SP3.

This appears to be related to duplicate named desktop icons. i.e. having a shortcut for Den and a shortcut for Den documents causes the Den icon to disappear. Renaming the Den Documents to Documents - Den resolved the issue. Proofed it out on another duplicate named icon as well.

Waiting to see if anything crops up but so far so good. :D

I've split up the thread, because your issue is different.

It might be related to icons with identical names. The log file doesn't help in this case. Please send us your *user name*.dxi from the [url=http://dexpot.de/forum/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=1910]user folder[/url].

I have this issue....with many different desktop icons. They just disappear. If I explore my desktop folder they are there....I then delete it from the folder and then restore from recycle bin and it stays......that is until I switch to another desktop.

Hi your answer did help me.. but really not exactly the way you described.
1- I right clicked on Dexpot in Windows System Tray.
2- I selected Desktop Windows
3- It should default to Desktop 1(your first desktop) then select Icons.
4- It should show all your Icons which are on Desktop 1
5- From there you can drag Icons to your other desktop or right click on them and move and copy to other desktops.
6- When you go to the other desktop they still don't show.. but if you do as you suggested it works.
7- So switch to desktop where you are missing icons. Right click on taskbar and select show desktop. And magically the icons you moved or copied to this desktop show..
