If you're losing desktop icons, you can find them in the lost section of the "Desktop Windows" window. Change the tab from "Window" to "icons". Drag the icons into the other desktop panels to place them in those desktops.

What I want to see is at least a way for the lost icons to be set on a default desktop instead of being lost (and I don't exactly understand how they can become lost either, but there's probably a good reason).

danielraz,
In Windows XP, change the recycle by right clicking on the desktop to get to it's properties, then go to the Desktop tab and click the Customize Desktop button... the rest is self explanatory.

when I turn on "Customize Desktop Icons" I have problems.

1) the "Align To Grid" options it shifts all the icons to a wierd positions and doesn't keep icons aligned to the grid - it only moves them when switching desktops
2) Icons that I 'move' to an second desktop show up on my second monitor
3) I occassionally lose icons (like Internet Explorer) and have no way of getting them back

I was using the Desktop Manager Powertoy but bultiple desktop icon support is what made me try this program -- it really feels too buggy though.
